Holidays

It's good to be away - no work, catching up with family and friends, homey food and sleeping late (unless you have a construction site just outside your window :S)
Just came back and realised of another very positive aspect of being on holidays: I didn't follow any news!
I was blissfuly unaware of Indonesia, Lebanon, politics in Poland, draught in Europe, murders, accidents and all other "side effects" of living in XXI century. It was a truly fantastic feeling.
Opening today's papers though was a total shock.
Back to reality...

World Cup fever

I’d better post this before news about World Cup totally disappear from first pages of newspapers:-)

Living in England does change your perspective about football – over here footy is a religion: everybody supports some team (and women are no exception!) in Premiership and whenever there’s a bigger football event, whole country’s getting into some amuck. I could experience it during Euro 2004, when just after my joining Citigroup, my boss decided to convert my into a football fan and dragged me to watch every England game possible. World Cup this year appeared to be even crazier!

Anyways I was lucky enough to be in Germany during this event and I must say it was awesome! I have never experienced such fun festival at such great scale! The amazing atmosphere was felt everywhere I went no matter if it was a stadium to watch Switzerland-Togo game or a square by the Cologne cathedral where we watched Spain-Tunisia game on a huge screen. We were also there when Cologne was overtaken by the masses of English fans who came to watch their team playing with Sweden (as Polish team was out of tournament by that time, I couldn’t do anything else but support England as well;-)

It’s hard to explain what it was like to be in Germany in the middle of World Cup. It was definitely one of the best times I’ve ever had and those five days brought back memories of AIESEC conferences’ exhaustion! The tiredness hit my only when I came back home, but damn it was worth it!
